Pattern Shop Summer: Sharon Brown's Classic "Virginia: A Life"

After hanging for 18 months out at Red Rocks Community College, Sharon's oil painting series, Virginia: A Life, has come home to The Pattern Shop Studio and will hang all summer.  Based on old photographs rescued from a dumpster after a neighbor died, the series (so far totalling 88 art works), chronicles the lives of two ordinary people from the 1930's until the 1980's. The exhibit can be seen on First Fridays in June, July, and August, 6-9pm, and any time by appointment (303-297-9831).

Barbara Shark Continues at the Pattern Shop through May 4

The Pattern Shop Studio’s spring exhibit of figurative painter Barbara Shark’s oil paintings,  About Time, continues on First Friday, April 6th and First Friday May 4th.   An Artist’s Salon will be held on Saturday, April 14th, 4-6pm, which will  also include the official release party for Shark’s newly published memoir, How I Learned To Cook, An Artist's Life. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and the artist will be signing copies.  The Pattern Shop Studio, in the heart of the RiNo Art District, is open seven days a week for groups and individuals by appointment (303-297-9831).

Colorado artist Barbara Shark has built a long and successful practice creating large format, photo-realistic paintings.  Her works capture their subjects outdoors or in animated conversations around the dinner table, doing almost anything, but always actively doing something.  In her pieces, Shark invites the viewer to imagine narratives about what’s going on, the personalities interacting, and what relationships undergird their interactions.  Working both in luscious black and white and in vibrant color, Shark takes everyday life and elevates it to the level of fine art. Spanning the time period from the early 1990’s to the 2010’s, About Time explores the artist’s focus, her skill and her growth as one of the region’s preeminent painters. Click on "Exhibits" to see more examples of her large scale oils.

Sharon Brown opens "Trumped!" for Arts Week in Denver

In her latest series, Pattern Shop Studio resident artist Sharon Brown explores the political landscape in America through portraits of President Donald Trump and members of his Administration, both former and current. Each painting is based on a publicly available image of the subject to which Brown applies her eye, her skill and current events to take a deeper look at the people running our country.   Trumped! is an unabashedly political exhibition and a celebration of our rights to speak out against those who abuse their power.

Winter Hours: Trumped! will be open for groups or individuals any time by appointment (303-297-9831) in January and February. Regular hours will resume on First Friday, March 2nd with "About Time," new and old large format paintings by figurative oil painter Barbara Shark. Stay tuned for details.
